Swimming Pool and Pool House - Huddersfield
Both the swimming pool and the pool house were constructed using ICFs during the year 2000.
The ICF system used to construct the walls of the swimming pool incorporated steel reinforcement to counteract the sidethrust from the water pressure in the pool. For the pool house itself, the only reinforcement required was for the lintels over the openings.
Otherwise the building was built in plain concrete with cast in wall ties for the external stone cladding that was added later. Services were run into chases cut into the polystyrene using a hot wire cutter. Tile and plaster finishes were applied directly onto the insulation and the close proximity of the insulation to the surface of the wall meant that once complete there would be no risk of condensation on wall surfaces even in the warm, humid atmosphere of the swimming pool. To finish the pool interior, a waterproof render has been applied over an expanded metal lathing pinned back to the concrete core of the ICF structure, and then tiles have been applied for the finished pool wall surface.
